Before delving into preventive measures, it's crucial to understand what a UTI is. UTIs occur when bacteria, usually Escherichia coli (E. coli), enter the urinary tract and multiply. The urinary tract comprises the kidneys, bladder, ureters, and urethra. While anyone can develop a UTI, women are more prone to these infections due to their shorter urethras, which allow bacteria easier access to the bladder.
Hydration: The Foundation of UTI Prevention
Staying well-hydrated is a fundamental step in preventing UTIs. Adequate fluid intake helps flush out bacteria from the urinary tract, reducing the likelihood of infection.
